The County which is under the stewardship of Dr. Alfred Mutua has made tremendous advancements in devolution and has been the centre of attraction to investors and a reference point to other counties all in a bid to embrace devolution.
The Governor has been on the front line advocating for equal distribution of resources and governance free of politics, an element which has been lacking in our leaders and has thus yielded favourism to the premier from the national populace.
Machakos County was the first amongst other counties to outline its budget to the oversight Parliamentary committee for approval. In addition, gender equality is spread evenly throughout its cabinet in cohesion with the Bill of Rights under The New 2010 Constitution.
Dr. Alfred Mutua in conjunction with his cabinet after installation singled out problems affecting the County and moved swiftly to counter them by offering viable solutions. Amongst the problems was The Kiima Kimwe Land scramble which had resulted to callous hatred within the participating communities. The County governance outlined an all inclusive task force to probe into the issue which brought the existent wrangles to a halt.
The County boasts of a well furnished stadium with an all equipped media centre and enhanced CCTV Surveillance to ensure the security of the 5000 people capacity is on check.
The county has therefore scaled to heights of hosting CECAFA Football Tournament which draws in teams from the organization’s member states. Hotels and restaurants have recorded a boom since the start of the tourney and more returns are expected to be harnessed within the progress of the football challenge.
However, with all these notable progress, there has been an existing power battle between the Governor and the Senator, John stone Muthama who has been hanging a millstone round the County Governance’s neck.
After realizing that the President had confirmed attendance for the official launch of the New Machakos City, the latter moved to court to petition against the move on grounds that the land meant to house the city was ‘stolen’ from the citizenry, a thing which the court dismissed.
The President in his usual call for togetherness and unity urged the two heads to come together and assume a common viewpoint for the benefit and ample transition of the county.
Muthama has since disappeared from the limelight and the County under its health docket is currently working on equipping the Machakos level 5 Hospital with an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to accommodate the needs of sickly people.
