RAPE – THE DREAM SNATCHER

Andrea Dworkin in one of her critical works of art, said as long rape is in existence, there is not going to be any peace or justice, equality or freedom. You are not going to become what or who you want to be. You are not going to live in the world you want to live in.
Rape is a callous atrocity whose perpetrators should just rot in hell I mean what’s the essence of marriage. I wonder what would be the reaction from great grandfather if he woke up from the dead. I bet he would offer to die again not to visualize the current state of the society. Unfortunately, rape cases have been on the rise with scribes seeking audience from the Government in writing and other forms of communication to help bring the vice to an end. Why on earth would you rape your own child whom you sired? The world as the clerics would agree with me is coming to an abrupt end. Just like a chiming bell, rape cannot be undone. It lacks the history button.
Human rights activists have been on the forefront in agitating for justice to be yielded to the rape victims. It’s not fair to the emotionally disturbed girl next door who was raped by her Parent’s landlord and no action was taken even after reporting the case to our police officers whose selfish grins betrays their “UTUMISHI KWA WOTE” mantra. What happens behind the scenes remains to be a valid discussion on a different platform. I fault the police force and the rule of law which fails to disseminate justice to the innocent victims. The case of the Government robbing Peter to pay Paul has become the way of life where the police after pocketing some illegitimate perks intentionally bluff away any rape report as a misconception.
Jane (Not her real name) who is in class Seven at Tennessee Primary School once had big dreams of scaling the heights of Titus Naikuni who is the Managing Director of Kenya Airways. She dreamt of being a Pilot and always narrated to her cronies how they would fly to Utah-State, visit the Bahamas and take a tour of The Pharaoh’s in Egypt. But this was never meant to be after she met with her dream snatcher. She still remembers the fateful day’s scathing images until she passed out. Her case was closed last month and her assailant was released on bail after paying the 1 Million shillings fine set by the court.

I don’t want to be an idealist. One is always safe when they face the realistic side of life. Are fines the only way with which the courts can use to administer Justice? Second, will the Judge who ruled negatively on Jane’s case be able to hold his sight without turning away after he meets with the girl’s innocent look? Bet he won’t because his first born is in a leading girl school in the country.
The Parliament through its members should seek to establish governing laws which should eliminate any culprit associated with rape instead of deliberating on increasing their mileage wages.
Jane has now become a total wreck, a fact attributed to her poor family background which she did not choose to be born in.
